AGUSTI TORELLO ROCA (D.O. Penedes)
Agusti Torello i Sibill was the alma mater of Agusti Torello Mata cavas for two decades. In that winery he obtained all the accolades and recognition that any winemaker could possibly dream of. Two years ago Agusti decided to pursue his old dream: to start his own winery with his sons: Agusti Torello i Roca and Jordi Torello i Roca.
Agusti Torello i Sibill is a winemaker and an agricultural engineer by the University of Barcelona. He is also a certified Sommelier by the Institut Internacional i Hostalatge of Toulouse, France and a Sommelier school teacher in the prestigious Escola de Restauracio i Hostalatge in Barcelona. He is also the examiner for future Sommeliers at the Escuela Argentina de Sommeliers in Buenos Aires.
With this new project, he wants to present above all things, the local soils (terrer) and vines of his region: Penedes and Montsant. Todays legislation does not allow the two words CAVA and PENEDES to be in the same label, so he decided to use the name that refers to the region that he loves and that he knows like only a very few instead of going with the Cava DO that has made Spanish sparkling wines famous around the world.
With his son, also called Agusti, they have a great obsession: the TERRER, the terroir; as Agusti always says: there is not one single great wine in the world that does not make the land and the vines the center of its existence.
Exclusively using organic farming and really old vines, this team has created a group of some of the best wines and sparkling wines of Spain.
