QUINTA DE AVES (Vino de la Tierra de Castilla)
The Campo de Calatrava sub-region in Castilla is unique for its volcanic soils. This was the heart of the Templar knights in Spain known as The Order of Calatrava that ruled this lands for over 300 years.
The estate, known by the locals as Finca La Cañada, has over 600 hectares of land, 75 of which are dedicated to vines, mostly Tempranillo (26 to 52 years old), Moscatel, Airen (27 years old), Graciano and a few foreign grapes like Chardonnay, Merlot, Syrah and Cabernet Franc.
The volcanic soils are rich in limestone, quartz, slate and rocky on the surface.
The wetlands in the estate create a very unique microclimate that result in very special, terroir driven wines. These wetlands are also home and ‘pitstop’ for thousands of birds like the European Cranes, Royal Herons, Egrets, Cormorants, Bee-eaters, Royal Owls, Short-toed snake Eagles, Great Bustards, Sondgrouses, Quails, Partridges and many more... And so the name of the estate.
