Edetaria D.O. Terra Alta

Edetària is the winery of reference in Terra Alta, producing authentic wines with indigenous varieties of old vines in a unique terroir with a strong personality. Our wines are considered by wine critics as one of the best mediterranean wines of Catalonia and Spain. Minerality, complexity, balance and elegance are the essence of these wines, the fruit of painstaking work, adapting each vine to the ground where it grows. The Roman Via Edetaria was an important road in Hispania (Spain) that connected Caesaraugusta (Zaragoza) and Dertosa (Tortosa). Edetària's wines are not made due the vagaries of fate, but are the fruit of our profound knowledge of the terroir and the grape varieties we hav eplanted in each. Our aim is to lower yields and thereby produce excellent grapes which truly express their personality. And once in the cellar, a combination of the latest technology and the wisdom of tradition aims to conserve the quality of the fruit through into the wine itself. At Edetària, our aim is to produce unique wines which are not slaves to fashion and express the full potential of the terroir and the grape varieties. Joan Angel Lliberia is the third generation of winemakers and has managed to put together a small group of vine plots of, mostly, Garnacha Blanca, Garnacha Tinta and Garnacha Peluda near Gandesa, in the heart of Terra Alta. 

VIATERRA NEGRE 12-Pack
VIATERRA NEGRE

100% Garnatxa Negra 

Made from Garnatxa negra from vines in the Plana de Gandesa area, planted in high elevation terraces, with very low yields and around 25 years old. There is a part of the production fermented in clod and another part fermented in a more traditional way, resulting a wine that is fresh and complex, with nice round and soft tannins and aromas of red fruits, flowers and herbs. The wine spends 6 months in 300 liter oak barrels of French and American oak.

100% Garnatxa Blanca 

Made from Garnatxa blanca from vines in the Plana de Gandesa area, planted in high elevation terraces, with very low yields and around 25 years old. There is also a two-part fermentation and harvest, a first one that is early, to add freshness, fruit notes and acidity, and a second one that is two weeks later that gives the wine that typical Mediterranean warmth of the Garnatxa Blanca. There is a stage on lees to add some volume and the result is a delicious white that is fresh and very food driven.

VIATERRA ROSAT 12-Pack
VIATERRA ROSAT

100% Garnatxa Peluda 

For the Rosat, the winery uses 100% Garnatxa Peluda, a variety of Garnatxa that is called that way due to the fuzziness that forms all over the grape’s skin. This Garnatxa has slightly lower color and alcohol content than the Negra and so it is perfect for rosés. Via Terra Rosat has a great nose of flowers, strawberries, peach, minerals and salt.
